Equal latency contours (or equal latency functions) describe the latency (or delay) of a subject’s response to a stimulus across a range of frequencies. In humans, there is a correlation between a sound’s loudness and the time is takes for the sound to elicit a response from a test subject. As a result, Equal latency contours are commonly used as a means to inform the creation of auditory weighting functions for non-human animals, since the collection of equal loudness contours (ELoCs) requires time and resource intensive training with animal subjects.
